Christmas with the animals at Best Friends
“Twas the months before Christmas, when all through the land
People were thinking of the homeless pets on hand.
Dogs and cats had lost their homes, and came to a place,
Filled with souls to care for them and keep them safe.
From towering giants to the tiniest pups, some merely a few days old,
And kittens aplenty, all eager to come in from the cold.
At Best Friends they arrived, only to discover
A place like no other.
Red desert sand underfoot and canyons surround,
The heart of Best Friends, where love resounds.
The animals there are never truly alone,
For the Sanctuary is their home-between-homes.
But those there in person aren’t the only ones
Looking out for the dogs, cats, horses, birds and buns.
Oh no, quite the contrary.
For across the country are folks ever so kind
Who choose Christmas as a special time to remind
The animals at Best Friends that there’s enough love for all.
Their generous hearts move them to give to pets large and small,
The bounty arrives in parcels, boxes, and bags, and there it will stay
Until a very special day.
Christmas is when all creatures there receive
More treats and toys than they can even believe.
From the animals at Best Friends, a resounding thank you,
Wishing happy holidays to all, and a glorious new year, too.
Let's make every shelter and every community no-kill in 2025
Our goal at Best Friends is to support all animal shelters in the U.S. in reaching no-kill in 2025. No-kill means saving every dog and cat in a shelter who can be saved, accounting for community safety and good quality of life for pets.
Shelter staff can’t do it alone. Saving animals in shelters is everyone’s responsibility, and it takes support and participation from the community. No-kill is possible when we work together thoughtfully, honestly, and collaboratively.
