What has surprised you most about Georgia the Vicktory dog?

I was surprised by how quickly Georgia adjusted to her new home. It was heartbreaking to watch John Garcia and Georgia saying goodbye. Then right before John left, Georgia walked over to the sofa and jumped up. John said she knew she was staying. She learned so many things so fast and adjusted remarkably well to all the new sights and sounds. She seemed happy and very comfortable early on and has now come to absolutely love the comforts of her home.

What is your favorite thing about her?

My favorite thing about Georgia is that she is such a lovie and loves to snuggle! She sleeps very close to me on my/her bed, and when she first arrived, she kept giving me kisses during the night like she was thanking me for bringing her home. I knew right away how very lucky I was to have adopted this very special girl.

What is her favorite thing to do?

Georgia's favorite thing to do is go for walks. She gets so excited when she sees her leash and starts out running, then walks with a little extra bounce in her step. I talk to her or sing to her throughout our walks, and she looks up at me with those beautiful, soulful eyes of hers and seems to be her happiest. She doesn't even mind when she sees other dogs now because she knows when she looks at me that her treat will be coming.

Another one of Georgia's favorite things to do is visit her grandparents on the weekends. She jumps up and down when I ask her if she wants to go see grandma and grandpa, and she follows her grandma around the house, waiting for her special treats.

What has adopting her meant to you?

Going to Best Friends and adopting Georgia has been a dream come true. I still can't believe that I was the lucky one who got to adopt her, and it has been such a privilege to have her by my side and to take care of her. I'll always remember when one of her initial evaluators said he admired her because she made the best of what she had. She continues to inspire me every day. She has brought so much joy to my life, and I cherish her each and every day. I will always be forever grateful to the wonderful people at Best Friends for the gift of Georgia.

What do you think people can learn from Georgia?

Georgia is such a great example to others that it's possible to overcome many challenges with training and love. I would also like to mention to those who might be afraid to adopt a dog with Georgia's background that she has proved to be an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Georgia, along with many other dogs like her, has so much to teach us about forgiveness and love and learning to trust again. Despite her horrific past and all that she endured, she has shown us that she was not only able to survive, but to thrive and be happy and enjoy life in a home as a loving family member and truly a best friend!
