Staying in contact with adopters and learning about their pets’ new lives is one of our most cherished experiences. Our goal, after all, is to get pets out of shelters and into loving homes. Hearing about all the fun and aww-dorable moments is one of our greatest joys, and we want to share some of that joy with you. Check out these touching updates about the dogs and cats adopted from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Lasagna, adopted by Sarah and Remy

We’re so happy to say that Uzona is doing wonderfully! We changed his name to Lasagna after he tried sneaking a bite of our vegan lasagna. You can find him either doing zoomies around the house, napping in weird positions, or looking at the world out the window. He’s very talkative and has a lot of opinions to voice (which we love). He neglects the expensive toys we splurged on and instead plays with cardboard bags and boxes. He’s a sassy, spunky cat with a huge personality, and we love him a bunch.

Skye, adopted by Laura

We had a great time visiting my family! There was a lot of commotion, but Skye just went with the flow, and, of course, everyone loves her. She had her first vet visit and was a good girl for that. I feel like we’ve bonded and she totally trusts me, so she is up for anything — which I’m totally thrilled about. I’m eager to begin her training on the kayak since she seemed to enjoy riding in a four-wheeler and did such a great job balancing on it. She has been such a blessing, and I’m so thrilled to have her in my life.

Chicago, adopted by Bergendi

Chicago is such a sweetheart, so intuitive, and seems to be adjusting really well to city life. We’re still working through a decent amount of reactivity on walks when there are surprises, but she’s getting better all the time and has good recall. She usually just needs a hug or five after she knows she did something “bad.” Such a big heart and so loving. I couldn’t ask for a smarter, sweeter, sillier girl.

Rufus and Wes, adopted by Ethan and Kate

The boys are doing great. While we were worried about how they’d get along with our other cat, Data, they’re (mostly) now all friends. Despite being half the size of Data, Rufus is the king of the house. Rufus and Wes are buds and engage in grooming contests (“No, I’m licking you!”), and Wes has taken to sleeping next to Kate on the couch whenever possible.

Let's make every shelter and every community no-kill in 2025

Our goal at Best Friends is to support all animal shelters in the U.S. in reaching no-kill in 2025. No-kill means saving every dog and cat in a shelter who can be saved, accounting for community safety and good quality of life for pets.

Shelter staff can’t do it alone. Saving animals in shelters is everyone’s responsibility, and it takes support and participation from the community. No-kill is possible when we work together thoughtfully, honestly, and collaboratively.

You can help save homeless pets

You can help end the killing in shelters and save the lives of homeless pets when you foster, adopt, and advocate for the dogs and cats who need it most.

Saving lives around the country

Together, we're creating compassionate no-kill communities nationwide for pets and the people who care for them.
