Volunteer Spotlight: Lindsay Morgan
Lindsay Morgan is a fashion designer, a dog lover and, above all, a volunteer extraordinaire. Check out the Q&A below to learn about the amazing work Lindsay does at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in New York.
Why did you decide to volunteer at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in New York?
I really love spending time with the dogs (there), and that is what first drew me to volunteer. However, I've also found that the staff is amazing and inspiring. It is evident that they care so much about the animals in their care.
What would you tell others who are thinking of becoming a volunteer at Best Friends?
I tell everyone who’s thinking about volunteering to do it! My shift at Best Friends is my favorite part of the week.
Since becoming a Best Friends volunteer, what have you learned? Do you see things differently now? And if so, how?
This is a selfish answer, but I have learned that it's healthy and important to get outside of myself and focus on something else. Spending time with the dogs and focusing on their needs helps me to have more perspective on the rest of my life.
In terms of your volunteer work for Best Friends, what are you most proud of? Why?
Last week, a staff member said that, when I was at the adoption center, it was like having another member of the staff on shift. I was super flattered! I always want to make sure that I'm being helpful, and it was really nice to hear.
Tell us about your favorite volunteer moment.
Recently I saw photos of one of my favorite dogs, Merci, in his new home with his new family. He looked so happy and it was great to see him finally living the life he deserves.
What are you doing when you’re not volunteering with animals?
I am a fashion (knitwear) designer for the brands Leo & Sage and Lilla P, which keeps me pretty busy.
Do you have pets? Tell us about them!
I always had dogs growing up. Sadly, my current work schedule doesn't allow for me to have one of my own, but volunteering with Best Friends is the next best thing.
