Melodie Yermish already volunteers with Best Friends in New York, but she wanted to do more. So, she set up a table at a pet supply store and asked customers to donate pet food and supplies. The 11-year-old and her parents delivered the donations to the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in New York City, where she met co-founder Silva Battista and got a behind-the scenes tour. She may not be old enough to drive or vote, but she’s proof that you can make a difference for animals at any age.
