Saving the lives of pets in the Navajo Nation
Best Friends is working collaboratively with the Navajo Nation Animal Control Program, rescue groups, spay and neuter organizations, community members, and passionate individuals like you to increase lifesaving of cats and dogs in the Navajo Nation.
To give more dogs and cats from the animal control program an opportunity to find homes, our locally based team works closely with the field and kennel officers to find placement and transport to various rescue groups for adoption.
Recognizing how deeply families care about their pets and the challenges this community, like others, face accessing veterinary care, the Best Friends Navajo Nation program team is working with local programs, various Chapters (communities within the Navajo Nation), and other organizations to provide additional pet care resources for community members and their pets.
The Navajo Nation has identified the limited spay/neuter resources as a contributing factor to a free-roaming dog population that has become a public safety concern. Our team, along with many other organizations, are working with the community to address the overpopulation challenges by providing additional spay/neuter resources, along with increasing public awareness around animal-related issues in the Navajo Nation Chapters.
You can make a difference and help us end the killing in shelters in the Navajo Nation by volunteering, adopting, or making a donation to support our lifesaving work.
