1,000+ Shelter Pets Hoping for Homes at NKLA Adoption Weekend May 2 & 3
Shelter pets will shine at Best Friends Animal Society's NKLA Adoption Weekend Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Page Museum of La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles.
Hosted by Best Friends Animal Society, in collaboration with PetSmart Charities, the popular event is one of several Best Friends super adoptions held twice a year throughout the country. Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare organization focused on ending the killing of shelter pets and in Los Angeles, Best Friends is leading the NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) initiative with a mission to transform L.A. into the nation’s largest No-Kill City.
More than 1,000 pets will be available at NKLA Adoption Weekend, with adoption fees starting at just $50. All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped and adopters will receive a goody bag filled with toys, treats, coupons, and more.
“Any Angeleno who is looking to adopt should check out the NKLA Adoption Weekend. From playful pups and cute kittens to super sweet seniors, it’s the perfect venue to find your new best friend,” said Marc Peralta, executive director of Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles. “You can even bring your dog along to meet potential canine siblings at the event.”
The NKLA adoption weekends are free, family-friendly and feature adoptable pets from more than 50 local shelters and rescues. At this event, dogs and cats will be available from Los Angeles Animal Services and Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in Mission Hills, Border Collies in Need, Boston Buddies, PugNation Rescue LA, Wags and Walks, Labs and Friends.org, Angel City Pit Bulls, Kitt Crusaders and The Cat Cove.
Peralta is hoping for a record turnout and number of adoptions at NKLA Adoption Weekend. “The sad truth is that 9,000 dogs and cats are killed in U.S. shelters every day. Best Friends Animal Society believes that number should be zero and adoption is a key component to making that happen,” he said. “It’s only by working together that we will Save Them All and turn LA into NKLA.”
