Happy "Tails" at Galena Park
In the past two months, Best Friends in Houston has made a significant impact on pet adoption efforts at Galena Park Animal Shelter, helping to create awareness for the shelter and find homes for dogs in need. Galena Park, a small city located in the Houston metro area, does not currently have its own adoption program, so the Best Friends team has stepped in to bridge that gap.
Using our mobile adoption van, Best Friends has showcased dogs from Galena Park at local events, giving them visibility and connecting them with potential adopters. At the Galena Park Fall Festival, three dogs were adopted, including Lobo. A former dog boarding technician who happened to be passing by the adoption van on her way to the festival saw Lobo, fell in love with him on the spot, and decided to make him part of her family. Lobo's adoption was a heartwarming success and set the tone for future events.
Best Friends returned to Galena Park for the Community Yard Sale on November 16, where Dora, another dog from the shelter, was matched with her new home. This marked the second successful event, demonstrating the power of community events and the role of the mobile adoption van in finding homes for pets who might otherwise be overlooked.
By teaming up with Galena Park Animal Shelter, Best Friends has helped to provide much-needed exposure for these animals while also offering resources and support to ensure successful adoptions. The collaboration highlights the importance of Best Friends and Houston-area shelters working together to create more opportunities for pets to be adopted, regardless of the resources available to the shelter.
With continued efforts from Best Friends' Houston team, more animals in need at Galena Park are now being adopted into loving families, and the shelter is gaining valuable experience in working toward a brighter future for its animals.
