Location: Kanab, UT (Relocation assistance is available)

Hiring Range: The positions hiring range is anticipated to be $58,000-$75,000 depending on experience, plus great benefits.

Interviews will start on April 7th and occur weekly until the position is filled

Position Summary: Supervisors, working under the guidance of the Director and Manager, play a key role in achieving Best Friends Animal Society’s organizational no-kill mission and goals. Supervisors are responsible for the health, care, and well-being of Sanctuary dogs while providing mentorship and guidance to outcomes specialists. They act with urgency and efficiency, prioritizing lifesaving efforts to maximize positive outcomes for each dog.

Responsibilities:

  • Support population flow and integration of new dogs into the general population, overseeing the dog move process with Dogtown Leadership.

  • Evaluate dogs to assess candidates for Roxy’s Room and Adoption Hub and assure dogs are moved in a timely manner.

  • Supervise the Dogtown Volunteer Coordinators and collaborate with the Visitor and Community Engagement team to expand volunteer opportunities and improve operational efficiencies.

  • Focus on strengthening and expanding the foster program, while actively identifying opportunities to engage and collaborate with the local community

  • Assist other teams in providing basic care such as feeding, cleaning, walking, and medicating animals housed or transported within Best Friends’ vehicles, buildings, or facilities; follow all policies and local standard operating procedures when completing daily functions to ensure health and safety standards are upheld.

  • Supervise the Operations Specialist at Dogtown HQ, ensuring that all visitors to the sanctuary receive exceptional customer service. Guide the staff to leverage each interaction as an opportunity to engage and develop individuals, aligning with the organization's goals for enhancing the constituent journey.

  • Coordinate and facilitate mobile, remote, and on-site pet adoptions, providing superior customer service, new pet parent counseling, and post-adoption support throughout.

  • Develop a detailed knowledge of Best Friends’ programs to speak knowledgably about and best match both the animal and client’s (adopters, fosters, transfer partners) needs; lead by example in providing superior customer service.

  • Provide support, training, and performance feedback; participate in performance conversations; support hiring and onboarding; ensure teams meet expectations for Best Friends’ program requirements and procedures; support teams so that each person achieves their fullest potential as contributors to Best Friends’ mission and goals.

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Experience:

  • Customer-centric, non-judgmental approach to engaging with adopters, partners, visitors, volunteers, and colleagues; familiarity and comfort with an open adoption process.

  • Experience in leading teams or managing people preferred but not required.

  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills preferred but not required; strong communications skills, presentation experience with the ability to professionally advocate Best Friends’ position on issues.

  • Ability to work with, leash, kennel, walk, and handle all cats and dogs, including those with health and/or behavior conditions/concerns; basic ability to identify and speak to medical and behavioral characteristics of dogs and cats.

  • Resourceful, get-it-done attitude; initiative to assist in any area or process; problem solving, seeking answers independently and enthusiastically; flexibility to persist until goals are achieved.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with well-developed organization skills to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; familiarity with shelter software/animal management software, or desire to learn.

  • Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends’ position on issues

  • Valid Driver’s License with access to transportation to travel on organization business. Access to driving records will be needed for insurance purposes

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform full range of movement: stretching, bending, squatting, climbing, lifting up to 40 lbs, etc

  • Work is often outdoors in variable weather conditions and frequently requires the physical ability to perform strenuous manual labor 

  • Work at a computer for extended periods of time with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion

  • Ability to travel via various forms of public transportation for organization events including conferences, media events, etc
