Location: Hybrid (2-3x a week) 307 W Broadway NY, NY 10013

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $64,350-$71,000 /annually, depending on experience, plus great benefits!

Manager interviews will occur the week of 12/23/24 (recruiter phone screens will occur prior to this week).

Position Summary: The Marketing Specialist position plays a direct role in achieving Best Friends Animal Society’s no-kill mission and goal by providing the research, development, execution, and analysis of marketing, advertising, promotions, and social media, and the planning and execution of virtual, hybrid and in-person events in support of Best Friends lifesaving programs and our 2025 goal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • You are responsible and accountable for the culture you add to your team dynamic.
  • Assist in developing and executing tactical marketing plans to reach more diverse communities (may include digital and traditional advertising, social media, guerilla and grassroots, coordination with PR, and additional tactics as identified).
  • Develop and steward relationships with local businesses, organizations, and influencers.
  • Assist with all planning, logistics, and execution of Best Friends events.
  • Assist in the gathering of details for post-event and post-promotion reports.
  • Field and respond to all marketing, social media, and event inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Manage and coordinate volunteer support for marketing, social and events needs in collaboration with the volunteer department and/or action team.
  • Communicate and work openly across the broader communications/outreach team, and programs, volunteer, and action teams to maximize efficiency, reach, and budgets.
  • Maintain local/regional websites and landing pages, social media channels, and in-house collateral, adhering to brand voice and guidelines.
  • Assist, where needed, in press events and coverage, celebrity and influencer visits in collaboration with the PR and celebrity relations teams.
  • Work a flexible schedule that may include long hours near and during events or promos.
  • Maintain a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent
  • Ability to research, develop, and execute marketing plans and strategies.
  • Ability to assist in strategy and content development to grow audience and engagement for social media channels in the Best Friends voice and within brand guidelines.
  • Ability to work and clearly communicate across multiple internal teams and people at different levels in the organization.
  • Comfortable representing Best Friends with the public at events, in social media content, and in occasional media appearances.
  • Experience with paid and grassroots marketing campaigns, event coordination, and social media management is a bonus.
  • Other relevant skills include PR support, volunteer support, website content maintenance, and Microsoft Office suite (including Teams).

Physical Requirements:

  • Routinely lift 65 pounds and perform daily strenuous activity including, but not limited to lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending.
  • Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time including typing, sitting, walking, arm, and hand motion.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
  • Daily exposure to dogs, cats, and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.
  • Valid driver's license, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance, ability to travel, including overnight stays, when needed.
  • Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule; the position includes weekends and night work.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to support partner shelters and partner shelter staff in sustainable lifesaving work.
